Ultra-tough bitumen for roads with heavy traffic, to which polymers of vegetable origin have been added and which can be laid at 140°C instead of 180°C, has become a reality thanks to supramolecular chemistry, a promising concept offering great improvement potential for the bitumen industry. CECA, a subsidiary of the Arkema Group, and a partner in this research into supramolecular chemistry applied to polymers, is one of the first manufacturers to offer a " supramolecular " polymer based on this chemistry in the very near future.
