With the increase of oil prices and new regulations for the blending of gasoline (Energy Bill/Renewable Fuel Standard in the USA, 2003/30/EC directive in Europe…), the ethanol market is just booming. To follow this growth, engineering firms specialized in ethanol plant construction have to rely on the best equipments and products. In response to this, CECA has developed a specific portfolio of Molecular Sieves for the PSA Ethanol units.
We were contacted by one of the main engineering firms for biofuel plant conception and construction, which had to design and build several bioethanol plants all around the world, in a limited amount of time. One of their requirements was linked to the high level of purity and the odorlessness they had to guarantee for their ethanol product : we naturally proposed our SILIPORITE ® EHP, which, compared to standard PSA ethanol adsorbents, has proved its superior performance in terms of limiting by-product formation (ethers, acetaldehyde…). After further discussion, process engineers also expressed unordinary needs linked to the innovative aspect of their projects : due to important ethanol throughputs, they were looking for a Molecular Sieve with both outstanding mechanical strength (in order to handle quick and significant pressure changes) and superior adsorption capacity ( in order to maintain a reasonable column size). After a great deal of technical classifications and some internal work with our plant staff, we agreed to propose a tailor-made product which could satisfy our customer’s rigorous specifications.
Less than 3 months later, we successfully delivered the first order of this ‘special’ SILIPORITE ® EHP and began a long term cooperation for their upcoming bioethanol projects.
